United Airlines Schedules Extra Athens Flights For Israel Evacuations

United Airlines has announced that it is adding capacity to assist the US government in safely transporting US citizens back home from Israel. The carrier has announced a bunch of charter flights to Athens, on top of its regular service to the city, to carry back passengers arriving from Israel.

United has added more round-trips to Athens, in addition to the two flights it added on October 11th, and its schedule now looks like this:

  • United 3019 EWR-ATH on Thursday, October 12th
  • United 3020 ATH-EWR on Friday, October 13th
  • United 3021 EWR-ATH on Saturday, October 14th
  • United 3022 ATH-EWR on Sunday, October 15th
  • United 3024 EWR-ATH on Monday, October 16th
  • United 3025 ATH-EWR on Tuesday, October 17th

United’s regular schedule includes one daily flight each to Washington Dulles and Newark from Athens, and the carrier has also changed Sunday’s regular round trip from Washington Dulles to Athens to a bigger Boeing 787-10, up from a 787-8.

Airlines suspending Tel Aviv services

The escalating situation in Israel has forced many airlines to suspend services to the country temporarily. British Airways had to make that decision while one of its aircraft was already close to arriving in Tel Aviv. On October 11th, one of its Airbus A350s, due to land in Israel, was asked to turn back to London Heathrow. Soon after, the airline announced flight suspension to Israel.
